This post isn’t about politics. It’s about values such as hard work, humility, decency, respect.
It’s about motivation, inspiration, about hope.
I do like the slogan “Hope is making a comeback!” – as I do believe that Hope should be guiding us in everything we’re doing.
Especially now. Especially in times of wars, in times when some people belive it’s Okay to tell lies and make other people small…
I also do like the slogan “Don’t sit around and complain about things – do something!” – as I do believe that we all – everyone of us can contribute to change things for better.
So, despite of the political cotext of Michelle Obama’s speech, there is so much more to hear- so much more to take out.
Just a short extract:
” … I feel to honor her (her mom’s) memory and and to remind us all not to squander the sacrifices our elders made to give us a better future.
You see, my mom in her steady quiet way lived out that striving sense of hope every single day of her life she believed that all children, all people have value that anyone can succeed if given the opportunity.
She and my father didn’t aspire to be wealthy, in fact they were suspicious of folks who took more than they needed.
They understood that it wasn’t enough for their kids to thrive if everyone else around us was drowning.
…
That’s why she (her mom) taught her (her daughter) about justice, about the obligation to lift others up, about our responsibility to give more than we take!
She’d often tell her daughter “Don’t sit around and complain about things – do something!””
